For the second Bill Arning Exhibitions project at Ten Barn Farm, Ecstasy in the Barn explores the enduring dream of finding liberation, communion, and transcendence within one of the Hudson Valley's most iconic spaces: the barn. Inspired by the communal experiments and back-to-the-land movements of the 1960s and 1970s, the exhibition examines the many ways people have sought connection through landscape, sex, creativity, spirituality, pleasure, and collective living.

The project is grounded in one of the Hudson Valley's enduring paradoxes. Farms have traditionally represented hard work, self-sufficiency, and often socially conservative values. Yet these same rural landscapes also became sites of counterculture, free love, spiritual experimentation, queer communities, artistic communes, and alternative ways of living—made possible by the privacy and freedom found far from cities and conventional career paths.

The participating artists will explore both the promises and contradictions of these utopian aspirations through works created or adapted for this singular environment, where art exists in dialogue with weather, animals, meals, performances, and the daily rhythms of farm life.
